The Golden Ass, on the art of metamorphosis
Nov, 6 to Nov, 8, 2019 at In de Ruimte in Ghent.
THE GOLDEN ASS is the title of the only ancient book in latin to survive in its entirety (late 2nd century AD). The plot revolves around a certain Lucius. A curious guy with an insatiable desire to see and practice magic. Alas…. his spells accidentally transform him into an ass. This leads through a long journey, literal and metaphorical.
The exhibition reveals a mutual quest for magic and wonderment, the meeting of the mundane and the sublime, the struggle between body and mind and the trade-off between power structures and the individuals’ life.
