During malenki.NET Tamami will share her recent work Piece of colonne. Fragment of waves, recently on show at Friends With Books, Art Book Fair Berlin at Hamburger Bahnhof.
Tamami Iinuma about her work: „Through the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 I realized that architecture created by human knowledge and nature can all of a sudden disappear without warning. For Piece of colonne, Fragment of waves, I built a column of colored memo blocks, photographed them and made 11 booklets. I thought that the pages of a booklet that appear and disappear as they are turned, were like a continuously ebbing and flowing of waves. Please feel free to touch the installation and create your waves, and see waves made by others. The familiar act of turning a page may feel a little different from usual — it’s a feeling of architecture’s breath for me.“
Iinuma studied information design in Tokyo, as well as art with a focus on photography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig with Prof. Heidi Specker. She completed her doctoral program at Tokyo National University of Arts with a thesis entitled: How becomes a Book Architecture? – Landscape of Le Corbusier’s Typography. Within her artistic practice Tamami explores the relation between architecture and photography through telling stories and publishing books. She recently participated in Von Ferne. Bilder zur DDR an exhibition at Museum Villa Stuck in Munich. Tamami Iinuma was born in Tokyo, 1983. She currently lives and works in Tokyo, Leipzig and Paris.
On Friday, September 27th at 3:30 PM, Tamami Iinuma will speak about her upcoming publication Study: Language of House – Japanese architecture photography in 1970s, where she is focusing on unpublished photographs by Koji Taki (the founder of PROVOKE magazine 1968-1970).
