Guffaw by Lotte Reimann is a collection of photographs and texts; snapshots that recall the surrounding of a rough German industrial embossed city.
The protagonist, a tough boyish girl, can be found in several images. The texts are intimate like diary entries and give insights in a poisoned family life, upcoming sexuality und youth teenage revolt. The fragmented and sparse information easily causes the construction of a imaginary biography by the recipient. The images seem to be from a bygone time, which highlights their mysteriousness: Who is that young woman? Is she a star, an anonymous icon or could she be a friend?
