The printed Image — on photography and publishing

A tailor-made one-week workshop for a group of 20 students from all fields of study at Merz Academy in Stuttgart / Germany.

Do you like clippings & zines? Are you keen on using scissors, glue, paper and a lot of do-it-yourself cultures? What is your interest in photography right now?
In this one week workshop, led by Katrin Kamrau printing is central. We cut, copy, reproduce and make collages based on our own personal interests in lens-based images. Our materials are texts and images from newspapers, magazines, websites, advertising as well as books or from your own archive. We start with smaller communal exercises before delve into our own work. Publications by such as Eva Kot’átková, Lotte Reimann or Rabih Mroué will be our inspiration. In addition, an introduction to simple bookbinding techniques is possible.
At the end of the week your own zine, collection, publication or poster will be realized!

From Sept 26 through Sept 28 Tamami Iinuma, Liesbet Grupping, Oliver Leu, Lotte Reimann, Kathi Seemann, Rio Staelens and Hristina Tasheva will show and share their recent publishing-related work or work-in-progress in a spacial presentation and in lectures with visitors, like-minded people and professionals from the field of publishing, photography and art.

From Sept 26 through Sept 28 the first edition of malenki.NET will take place at Tique I art space in Antwerp.

During these days a group of seven artist from different countries will show and share their recent publishing-related work or work-in-progress with visitors, like-minded people and professionals from the field of publishing, photography and art.

All our publications are on display at the gallery and can be purchased at our temporary book shop.

Magical Art Book Fair

malenki.net would be happy to welcome you at the first Magical Art Book Fair on Sunday, Nov 18, 2018 at Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht. During this fair over 50 participants – independent publishers, artists and presses – from all over the world, will offer their latest Riso publications – artists’ books, zines, special editions and risograph prints. It’s a unique opportunity to attend book launches, presentations and demonstrations by the world’s top stencil printers, publishers and artists working with the Risograph.

At our table, you can explore a fine selection of our malenki.net programme with publications and editions created by using the riso technique, as well as published work by formal Van Eyck participants. malenki.net is welcoming two guests during this event:

Julie van der Vaart will offer two special editions for this occasion: Her riso print untitled, crimson red on grey paper, 335 x 245 mm, produced at the Van Eyck Academy, in an edition of 20 numbered and signed copies (see image above) and a special edition of her wonderful book Mountains, Waves and Skies including an Instax Fujifilm print (an edition of 10 different photographs is available).

Polly’s Picture Show will offer the publications Polly’s Playground (printed at Van Eyck Academy) and Out of Shape (see image above), including work by Isabelle Wenzel, Ruth van Beek, Samara Scott, Lotte Reimann, Hanne Lillee, Anne Huijnen and Anna de Jong, printed in various printing techniques during a residency at Frans Masereel Centrum.

The Art Book Fair is part of the third Magical Riso Biennial organized by the Jan van Eyck Academy.

While working as a graphic designer, Sven Lindhorst-Emme made book works for various artists. By being paid for his work partial by trade-off, he built up a collection of artworks including photography, painting, drawing and sculpture.
During the exhibition all collected artworks will be on view, next to a selection of books, designed by Sven Lindhorst-Emme.

The exhibition ‘Out of Shape’ brings together the work of 8 artists who all draw attention to the importance of shape and form. The subject manifests itself in many different ways: there are solid triangles and squares, morphing outlines and silhouettes, peculiar figures and forms. The forms we desire, or that are desired of us. Unruly bended, turned, covered and exposed. In shape or out of shape, this project celebrates it all.

Exibiting artists: Lotte Reimann, Ruth van Beek, Fleur van Dodewaard, Hanne Lillee, Suzanne Posthumus, Anna de Jong, Isabelle Wenzel and Anne Huijnen.
