‘Annenkleider’ (Annen dresses) are magnificently decorated garments for Madonna sculptures. Made by nuns and canonesses since the Middle Ages, they were put on the sculptures for special occasions. The name of these sculptural ornaments refers to the often hand-crafted depiction of the Mother of Mary.

]]> Ankommen is a study of architectural infrastructure for state-provided accommodation for refugees in Germany. During the so called European migrant crisis from 2015 on Germany got known for its ‘welcome culture’ towards refugees. Since 2015 millions of refugees have arrived to the country and the state has had to react quickly trying to provide sufficient housing for the immigrants. In the fast paced urban planning process material and immaterial borders are created, making it challenging for the refugees to settle. Through photographic documentation, aerial views and official documents of regulations regarding refugee housing complexes the book raises a questions about the architecture’s impairing effects for refugees integration to German society. In public, a Dutch citizen with an academic background asked me: “Are you a communist?” To understand what it means to be a communist, I have chosen to place the word in its historical contexts in the Netherlands and in Bulgaria.

‘sunprints’ made in the shade of the mulberry tree,
grapevine and patio with hollyhocks and fragrant jasmine in the Eugeen Joorsstraat in Antwerp, in the summer of 2020 and 2021. Alternating between hammock and garden chair, feet under and on the table, I read de eerste keer dat ik mijn bed verloor by Colette. I reposition and light up the page. Squeeze the book, observe the shifting of the shadow and end up in the hammock in Cussangy where I got the idea to print this zomerboek. I read and walk through the garden with white pages, breathe slowly and count 8 minutes and 19 seconds, that is the time it takes for the sunlight to reach us and to expose the paper. Rinse with water and it turns blue.

This is the time of hydrangeas and unripe pears.

L’ombre d’un doute is a black and white edition of a hundred pages, printed at the end of 2020 and limited to 50 copies. It presents a body of photographs taken between 2018 and 2020 in Brussels and especially its outlying suburbs, as well as during walks and cycle rides in the French, Belgian, Dutch and Luxembourg countryside.
