Ondes documents the flows of energy that shape our lives and overwhelm our powers of perception. The series addresses the link between our origin and our ultimate destination. The same link that unites us to distant times, to the first forms of life and to the cosmos, in a sense of interconnection and interdependence. Ondes by Bénédicte Blondeau presents a vision of reality that does not forget that it also refers to what we cannot see. It’s an exploration of the elements based on the principle that everything is in perpetual transformation, whether we are capable of perceiving it or not.

The project Ondes by Bénédicte Blondeau was supported by Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, República Portuguesa DGArtes, Espace Contretype, Mulhouse Photo Bienniale.

periphic – collectors edition

This world is a strange place. Christoph Schieder approaches it in his very own way. Sombre and dystopian at first glance, his images unfold a strange poetry of the in-between. The places in his photographs wait silently between demolition and new construction, harvest and sowing, abandonment and revival. In this way, Schieder also understands his pictures as a contemplation of the contradictory feelings that something must change and everything should remain as it is.

The Collectors Edition of periphic by Christoph Schieder includes his self-published photo book together with two photographs by the author (not published in the book), printed on Hahnemühle Bamboo paper in the format 250 x 180 mm.

Planet earth at night. Seeing the world from above. Everywhere mankind has transformed the landscape, illustrated by the lights of the cities shining in the dark.
Planet earth seen from its depths. A wild and spontaneous swinging. Instinctive. Organic.
Ce qu’il reste is not about rupture. It’s a change of perspective, a movement of come and go from one side to the other, reminding that the environment shaped and controlled by mankind is also fragile and ephemeral. Some things die, others appear. Transform. Regenerate.
Ce qu’il reste is an invitation to travel – in space, but also in time. A journey through images created with a camera. Photography itself is often considered as the medium of the ephemeral. It shows us a moment that undeniably belongs to the past, reveals our passages in a constantly changing reality, like a scar recalling our memories: a metaphor of the fragility of human existence. But it is that same medium which eventually leads the spectator to a change of perspective, showing what remains when the same spaces are left by those who once inhabited them, with their individual stories and collective memories. Far from the turmoil of men, in the silent depths of the earth, an imperturbable and majestic movement continues its slow trajectory undertaken hundreds of millions of years ago. And maybe for eternity.

Echo ohne Ortsangabe

At the outset for Echo ohne Ortsangabe were small black-and-white analogue prints from my archive. In the course of their artistic re-actualization the prints were re-photographed and retouched only to the degree that would allow the report of their original quality in a publication. However, some of the reproductions show more than the perfect replay of the archive photo but also parts of the carrier on which the image was placed for the purpose of reproduction.
Within the sequence that was defined for Echo ohne Ortsangabe the single pictures not only refer to each other through formal similarities. The report of the pictures in the sequence also change between the display of image as image and image as archival document, which somewhat creates an echo from an otherwise unidentifiable origin. Altogether the images occur as if distant and floating within a silent, vague space that was made to subject the images to a second glance. Past is always re-negotiable. — Heidemarie von Wedel
